Now that the Dust has Settled...
We deserve answers we aren't getting, and less treachery in the GOP ranks
Too many people make the same mistake over and over again when they run into big news: As if never learning, they rush ahead to make big assertions, only to be T-boned by new facts that emerge within days. Personally, I’m glad I took a “wait and see” approach last week when Garret Lewis announced he would reveal who presented Kari Lake with the bribe she revealed at last year’s CPAC event.
Lots of my colleagues instantly formed an opinion, ranging from Garret stepping in it to it amounting to nothing, which is unfortunately far too common because of everyone’s desire to break the story that will finally change it all usher in an era of greatness. After a few days of drops, Arizona had a vacancy for the party chairmanship.
I have known Garret for three years now, since I first decided to throw my hat in the ring and run for the Arizona House. He almost single-handedly put me and my running mates from LD-17 on the map, and together we make up the only LD delegation of three in Arizona to belong entirely to the Arizona Freedom Caucus. He does not mince words or tease stories he doesn’t have. That’s when I knew this was a serious issue.
Now, for my opinion:
I am disgusted by all the animosity in the Arizona GOP toward Kari Lake. I have found that her most avid haters cheer the judicial corruption in this state because it, and the maladministration of her election, kept her out of the governor’s suite. Even though two of our greatest Republican presidents were once Democrats, some of her haters still malign her for not having a perfect record of “conservatism” or always walking in lockstep with the Republican Party. What good is a freedom movement if it does not allow for people to change the way they think, or to which party they belong? What fair-minded people hear in those recordings is one of the most charismatic political figures in modern memory refusing to back away from the political scene after being offered ungodly money to disappear from the chaos and drama of it all. Most of these people whining about the nature of the reveal will simultaneously complain about the corruption in politics while not being able to discern truth from opinion here.
I don’t care if it was his idea or not, Jeff DeWit should divulge the names of which person, or group of people, put him up to even carrying forward the offer to Lake. The people, not just within the Arizona GOP but everywhere, have a right to know who is meddling with Arizona politics and using not only money (for Lake) but fear (for DeWit and others) to get their way. The silence from some seems to give a clear indication as to where our true friends and enemies lie on this issue.
Gina Swoboda, in light of the breakneck drama last week, has great potential for this role because her primary field of recognition is in election integrity. Arizona is the center of the universe for all things election corruption, and with her at the helm, it will be front and center for the next nine months as we lead into the most important election we’ve had in this country’s history. She has my full support, and now that the dust has settled, she deserves yours.
I am fighting the good fight and need your support to hold my seat, which will be heavily targeted this cycle. Please consider donating at https://secure.anedot.com/jones4az/donate !
